Econfina Creek
Econfina Creek, located in Florida's Bay County, is a major tributary to Deer Point Lake, a primary source of recreation and public water for communities in the Florida Panhandle. The creek's topography is unique for the region, characterized by stunningly beautiful limestone bluffs, a rich diversity of hardwood tree species and flowering mountain laurel. The Hancock Timber Resource Group acquired a large portion of the watershed in 1990 and soon began discussing conservation options with the Northwest Florida Water Management District. Through the commitment and fine work of that organization, ownership of 880 acres of land along Econfina Creek was transferred to the people of Florida in December of 1996.
